Music lovers can enjoy classical music concerts in HDTV this summer on Astra (19.2° East). Satellite operator SES Astra will transmit the Festival summer of classics from July 7 until the end of September in collaboration with German production and distribution company Unitel Classica.
SES Astras free-to-air HD demonstration channel will be used on the frequency 11.914 GHz H (SR 27,500, FEC 9/10). Seven hours of productions from this years Salzburg Festival, the Valencia opera house and other selected music concerts will be screened each evening in high definition with Dolby Digital surround sound from 19:00 CET. This includes the opening concert of the Viennese Philharmonic Orchestra at the Salzburg Festival as well as concerts from Schönbrunn Castle in Vienna with Anna Netrebko, Plácido Domingo and Rolando Villazón and star pianist Lang Lang.
With Astra, Unitel Classica has found a partner to screen classical music on television using todays best available sound and picture quality, so that its almost like being there, said Unitel Classicas managing director Jan Mojto. Wolfgang Elsäßer, managing director of Astra Deutschland, explained: The transmission of high-carat classical events gives us the opportunity to show a broad audience exactly what HDTV can do: needle-sharp impressive pictures which convey to the viewer a unique live experience.
